This exciting voyage will offer you a look into the high north, its beautiful landscapes, and the area's impressive wildlife. You will even see how inhabitants of the area have coped with the extreme temperatures for centuries. Your trip to East Greenland will be both an adventure and a learning experience!

Day 01 : Embarkation

You will arrive in Akureyri and embark the ship. We will leave Iceland in the early evening and sail north toward the Denmark Strait.

Day 02 : Crossing the Arctic Circle

We will continue at sea sailing north through the Denmark Strait where we are certain to see Fulmars, Kittiwakes, Gannets, Common Guillemots, and Razorbills. We will cross the Arctic Circle and continue north keeping our eyes peeled for any roaming whales. In the evening we will spot our first icebergs of the journey as we approach the east coast of Greenland near Kap Brewster.

Day 03 : Volquart Boons Coast-Denmark’s Ø

In the morning we will sail along the ragged and glaciated Volquart Boons Coast where we may organize a Zodiac cruise around the glacier fronts and have our first landing in Maanegletsjer or in Vikingebugt. Later we will land on Denmark’s Ø, home to the remains of an Inuit settlement abandoned some 200 years ago. We will observe various clues about how they lived their lives in such cold weather in tents and very small houses. The sites have been excellently preserved allowing us to identify many interesting artifacts. In the evening we will continue sailing through the beautiful western fjords filled with icebergs.

Day 04 : Cape Hofmann Halvø-Scoresby Land

We will head ashore at Cape Hofmann Halvø, a great spot for viewing Musk Oxen, as well as Rock Ptarmigans and Great Northern Divers at sea. The landscape here is impressive, especially during autumn when the Dwarf Willow, Dwarf Birch, Arctic Blueberry, and Crowberry change colors. In the evening we will sail through the fjord toward Scoresby Land with its stunning views of colorful vegetation, high rising mountains, and deep blue icebergs.

Day 05 : Scoresby Land-Sydkap

As we bass by the northwest fjord in Scoresby Land in the morning, we will encounter massive icebergs as high as 100 meters and more than a kilometer in length. Most of the icebergs reach the ground as the fjord is only roughly 400 meters deep in this area. We will make a landing at Sydkap to view the remains of the Thule culture winter houses. As many as twenty people once lived in these tiny structures, hunting Greenland Whales whose vertebrae were used to build the houses. We may also land at Gurreholm on Jameson Land home to some very impressive landscape. We may also land at Gurreholm on Jameson Land where Musk Oxen and Collared Lemmings survive on very meager vegetation.

Day 06 : Illoqqortoormiut-Blosseville Coast

In the morning we will land at Illoqqortoormiut, the largest settlement in the Scoresby Sund with about 500 inhabitants. At the post office you can buy stamps for your postcards or just wander around to see the sledge dogs and the drying skins of Seal, Musk Ox, and Polar Bear. After lunch we will sail south passing the amazing landscape of the Blosseville Coast.

Day 07 : Nansen Fjord/Mikis Fjord

At the mouth of Nansen Fjord we will spot Gunnbjørns Fjeld, 3,700 meters high. It is both the highest peak in Greenland and the highest mountain north of the Arctic Circle. We will sail into Nansen Fjord another magnificent landscape with an enormous glacier front which is easily approachable. At the inner side of the fjord along the northern shore there are ample landing and Zodiac cruising opportunities. In this area we often see Rock Ptarmigans with their young, as well as Bearded Seals. If we are unable to spend the day in Nansen Fjord due to glacier ice which often fills the fjord, we will sail into Mikis Fjord, bounded by steep cliffs. The fjord is a good place to spot Ringed Seals and Harp Seals. At Södalen, located at the head of Mikis Fjord, we will land in a marshy delta. There are good populations of both Common and Arctic Redpolls, as well as a chance to see flocks of Barnacle Geese and Pink-footed.

Day 08 : Kangerlussuaq-Skaergårdshalvø

In the morning we will head to the Kangerlussuaq fjord where the glaciers create a fabulous landscape of fronts and cliffs. Ashore, we will observe the ruins of the Thule culture. We will conclude the day with a Zodiac tour to Skaergårdshalvø, a popular summer hunting ground for the Ammassalik peoples. Most commonly, a number of families arrive here in early summer and stay until the end of the hunting season. Perhaps we will have the chance to meet them. In the afternoon we will sail toward to the Denmark Strait.

Day 09 : At Sea

This full day at sea will offer you excellent opportunities to see large whales and migrating seabirds. We will even have a chance to observe the famous Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.

Day 10 : Disembarkation

We will arrive in Keflavik and transfer to the airport for your flight home.
