This voyage will take you to the various islands of the Weddell Sea where we will search for the incredible wildlife that makes Antarctica so unique. We will sail through the Atlantic Sound enjoying what is literally millions of pairs of penguins along with the superb landscapes of the deep south!

Day 01 : Embarkation

In the afternoon, we embark in Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world. We will sail through the Beagle Channel for the rest of the evening.

Day 02-03 :

We will spend the next two days sailing across the Drake Passage and on to the Antarctic Convergence where we will be met by various seabirds including Wandering Albatrosses, Grey-Headed Albatrosses, Black-Browed Albatrosses, Light-Mantled Sooty Albatrosses, Cape Pigeons, Southern Fulmars, Wilson’s Storm Petrels, Blue Petrels, and Antarctic Petrels. Depending on the weather we will have a chance to head ashore for our first Antarctic landing at Aitcho Island or Penguin Island in the South Shetlands. These volcanic islands are often cloaked with fog and mist but offer a beautiful variety of flora and fauna including various Gentoo and Chinstrap Penguins and Giant Petrels.

Day 04 :

We will continue on into the Weddell Sea and should the ice be thin enough to allow us to pass we will sail further in, toward the tabular icebergs marking our arrival to the eastern Antarctic Peninsula. We plan to visit Paulet Island where we will see as many as a million pairs of Adelie Penguins, a truly breathtaking sight. In the afternoon we will continue on to Snow Hill, home to the remains of the Nordenskjold expedition.

Day 05 :

We will have our first chance to view Emperor Penguins on the ice-edge between Snow Hill and James Ross Island making their way to open waters. Should this not be possible to see today, we will make another attempt tomorrow. We will also make an attempt to visit Seymour Island, home to various fossils as well as Adelie Penguins, Cape Petrels, Pale-faced Sheathbills, Skuas, Kelp Gulls, and Antarctic Terns.

Day 06 :

Once again as long as the conditions permit, we will travel further into the Weddell Sea and visit Devil Island and Vega Island with large colonies of Adelie Penguins as well as a stunning viewpoint for those that wish to make the climb to the top of the hill. Melting Ice in the area also provides some pretty impressive waterfalls, especially near point Well-Met.

Day 07 :

As we head north through the Antarctic Sound we may have a change to visit the Argentinean station Eperanza on the Antarctic Continent. We will continue to keep our eyes peeled for Emperor Penguins, and in the afternoon we may visit Gourdin Island home to three different penguin species, Chinstraps, Gentoo, and Adelies.

Day 08 :

In the morning we plan to visit Half Moon Island to catch a glimpse of the Chinstrap and Gentoo Penguins as well as various other bird species, Elephant Seals, and Weddell Seals. In the early afternoon we continue on to Deception where we will launch our last landing at Pendulum Cove.

Day 09-10 :

As we pass through the Drake Passage we will again have a chance to see various seabirds guiding our way. We will also listen to more from our expert nature and history lecturers.

Day 11 :

We will arrive in Ushuaia in the morning and disembark.
