Designed as an ice-strength vessel, the Molchanov was built in 1983 as an oceanographic research ship. Since then, the ship has been transformed into a passenger vessel great for polar exploration. You will be accompanied by an excellent staff of nature and hictorical lecturers which will fill you in both on the ship and during your many landings and wildlife sightings.

Day 01 :
We embark in the afternoon and set sail from Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world. We continue through the Beagle Channel in the evening.
Days 02-03 :
We will spend the next two days sailing across the Drake Passage and on to the Antarctic Convergence where we will be met by various seabirds including Wandering Albatrosses, Grey-Headed Albatrosses, Black-Browed Albatrosses, Light-Mantled Sooty Albatrosses, Cape Pigeons, Southern Fulmars, Wilson’s Storm Petrels, Blue Petrels, and Antarctic Petrels. As we approach the Shetland Islands we will see our first icebergs.
Days 04-09 :
We hope to start of our Antarctic tour with a landing at Hannah Point, home to variety of penguins including Gentoo and Chinstrap as well as southern giant petrels and elephant seals. We will try to land at Baily Head on Deception Island where will likely see a colony of tens of thousands of Chinstrap Penguins. We will also find hot springs on Deception Island and much more wildlife including Cape pigeons, Dominican gulls, Brown and South Polar Skuas, and Antarctic Terns. You will have the option of hiking over the ridge of volcanic Deception Island’s crater to Whalers Bay, host to Wilson’s Storm Petrels and Black-bellied Storm Petrels. We will then head further south to the Orne Islands with its large colonies of Chinstrap Penguins and beautiful views across the Gerlache Strait. We may visit Cuverville Island, located between the mountains of the Antarctic Peninsula and Danco Island. Cuverville is home to a large colony of Gentoo Penguins and breeding pairs of Brown Skuas. We hope to set foot on the Antarctic Continent in Neko Harbour and Paradise Bay where we will see huge icebergs and deep cut fjords. We will also cruise through the icebergs in the zodiacs bringing you even closer to the stunning sight. We sail through the spectacular Lemaire Channel to Petermann Island offering a view of Adelie Penguins and Blue-eyed Shags. We will also attempt a landing at Pleneau Island where we will have a chance to stop Humpback, Minke, and Fin Whales. We will continue south along the Argentine Islands to Crystal Sound, south of the polar circle. At the Fish Islands we will land at one of the southernmost Adelie Penguin and Blue-eyed Shag colonies in the Antarctic Peninsula. A base visit will also be provided, to give you an insight about the life of modern Antarcticans working on the White Continent. We will head to our southernmost point of the journey at Detaille Island in the Crystal Sound. As we head back north, we sail through Neumayer Channel and Gerlache Strait. We will have planned yet another zodiac tour upon our arrival in the Melchior Islands, home to rich wildlife and more impressive icebergs.
Days 10-11 :
We will once again cross through the Drake Passage accompanied by various seabirds.
Day 12 :
We will arrive in Ushuaia in the morning and disembark.
