This voyage will allow you to explore areas of the South Atlantic Ocean including Cape Town, South Africa, Ascension Island, and the Cape Verde Islands. This voyage does not take you through Antarctica but is instead a common extension of the Atlantic Odyssey B (Part I) voyage which begins in Antarctic and heads north through the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 01 : Embarkation

We will board the ship and take off in the afternoon. Some passengers from Part I of this voyage will be joining for this stretch of the strip as well.

Day 02-05 : At Sea

We will sail through some of the richest areas for observing seabirds in the South Atlantic as we pass through the rich Benguela Current, the Vema Sea Mount, and the Walvis Ridge. We will enter tropical waters and experience new species of seabirds and dolphins.

Day 06-08 : St. Helena

We will make a stop at St. Helena where we will have plenty of opportunities to enjoy the local culture, beautiful climate, and impressive flora and fauna. We will visit where Napoleon once lived in exile. You will also have lots of time to explore the island; this is a great spot for snorkeling where a shipwreck has become a breathtaking underwater habitat.

Day 09-10 : At Sea

We continue at sea.

Day 11-12 : Ascension Island

Ascension Island is a richly vegetated volcanic island, home to Sooty Tern colonies that sometimes consist of more than one million breeding pairs. We will try to climb the moist summit of Ascension Island and partake in a Zodiac cruise around Boatswain Bird Island offering beautiful snorkeling. We may even have the chance to witness sea turtles laying their eggs ashore at night.

Day 13-17 : At Sea

We continue at sea crossing the equator where we will witness the spring migration of various northern birds like the Arctic Terns, Long-Tailed Skuas.

Day 18 : Cape Verde Islands

Today we will land at Fogo, the great vulcanological laboratory of the Cape Verde Islands. Here we will see fresh lava preserved by the dry atmosphere of the islands. We plan to land near the capital of Sao Felipe and embark on an excursion to the very crater of the village of Portela where wine is made. Though not the most impressive blend in the world, it is not an experience worth missing. We will return to Sao Felipe and relax for a while before returning to the ship for an early dinner. Afterward, we will take on an evening Zodiac cruise in search of sea birds before nightfall.

Day 19 : Praia, Sao Tiago

We will arrive at Praia on Sao Tiago, the main island of the southern group and take an excursion to Cidade Velha. Here we will observe the massive fortress built to deter English marauders during the time when Spain and Portugal were united. We will see the ruins of the cathedral, the oldest Christian church in the tropics as well as the former slave whipping post in the main square. The village is home to plantations of sugar cane, a rum distillery, and various species of birds. We will take another guided stroll around the city of Praia experiencing its variety of folk music as we pass by the various bars. Late that evening or early the next morning you will take your flight home. Passengers will also have the option of disembarking in Praia the previous evening should you wish to stay and enjoy the sites before continuing home.
