This hiking expedition includes several kilometers of hiking each day into the relatively untouched areas of Antarctica. You will see the impressive wildlife and get a first hand look at what most people have only seen on television! Come hike the Antarctic Peninsula and take in all that is beautiful area has to offer.

Day 01 :

We embark in the afternoon and set sail from Ushuaia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world. We continue through the Beagle Channel in the evening.

Day 02-03 :

We will spend the next two days sailing across the Drake Passage and on to the Antarctic Convergence where we will be met by various seabirds including Wandering Albatrosses, Grey-Headed Albatrosses, Black-Browed Albatrosses, Light-Mantled Sooty Albatrosses, Cape Pigeons, Southern Fulmars, Wilson’s Storm Petrels, Blue Petrels, and Antarctic Petrels. As we approach the Shetland Islands we will see our first icebergs. Assuming the weather will be favorable, we will head out for our first landing at Aitcho Island or Penguin Island in the South Shetlands. The islands are often shrouded in mist and fog but offer beautiful natural vistas and rich wildlife.

Day 04-07 :

These four days will be decided by the on board Expedition Leader based on weather and time conditions. We may start the first day in Antarctica with a landing at either Half Moon Island or Hannah Point where we will spot a variety of Gentoo and Chinstrap Penguins as well as southern giant petrels and elephant seals. We will then attempt a landing at Baily Head on Deception Island home to a colony of tens of thousands of Chinstrap penguins. We will also hike to Whalers Bay where we will find hot springs and an abandoned whaling station as well as thousands of Cape Pigeons, Dominican Gulls, Brown and South Polar Skuas, Antarctic Terns, Wilson’s Storm Petrels, and Black-Bellied Storm Petrels. As we head south we will sail to Cuverville Island located between the Antarctic Peninsula and Danco Island. The island is home a large colony of Gentoo Penguins as well as breeding pairs of Brown Skuas. We will set foot on the Antarctic Continent at Neko Harbour surrounded by impressive glaciers. As we sail to Paradise Bay we will navigate through enormous icebergs and deep fjords. We may even have the chance to take the zodiacs through the fjords and icebergs in search of Humpback and Minke Whales. We will sail through the Lemaire Channel to Pleneau and Petermann Island where we will see Adelie Penguins and Blue-Eyed Shags. We will have yet another chance to encounter Humpback Whales, Minke Whales, and Fin Whales. A visit to one of the scientific stations in Antarctica will give you an insight about the life of modern Antarcticans working on the White Continent. Sailing north through Neumayer Channel we arrive at the Melchior Islands with a very beautiful landscape and again possibilities for zodiac cruising through the icebergs, where we may encounter Leopard Seals, Crabeater Seals, and whales.

Day 08-09 :

We will head back through the Drake Passage where as before we will be met by various seabirds.

Day 10 :

In the morning we will arrive in Ushuaia and disembark.
