Deception Island is an enormous volcano whose crater opens into the sea creating a natural harbor for the vessel. Here we will find hot springs, an abandoned whaling vessel, and various animals including thousands of Cape Pigeons, Dominican Gulls, Brown and South Polar Skuas, and Antarctic Terns. At Whalers Bay we will see the ruins of a whaling station taken over by Wilson’s Storm Petrels and Black-Bellied Storm Petrels.
